100 MILES TO LORDSBURG takes us on a journey with Jack and Martha, a young African American couple who packed their bags in 1961 and hit the road in search of a better life. When I was blessed with the opportunity to bring Jack's pregnant wife Martha to life I realized immediately what an amazing opportunity I was given. Let me put it this way, I have a new respect for pregnant women everywhere! Especially those of you in your third trimester during summer, lol. But seriously, stepping into the film was like stepping back in time to experience some of the horrible situations minorities were forced to endure. But I'm so proud of how far America has come in regards to civil rights...even though we still have quite a way to go.
Thanks to The Green Book (written by Victor H. Green), travelers could easily find establishments that were welcoming, that would offer them goods and services along the way. One could almost refer to it as the "Google Maps' of its day. Well, more like "Google Maps with Awesome Safety Features". This is what makes Lordsburg so special. Every individual struggle, every leap of faith people like Jack and Martha took when they packed up and hit the road is its own story of triumph in changing times. These are the stories some have forgotten, and some have never known...these are the stories that need to be told. Let me tell ya friends, it was awesome hangin' out with a wonderful cast and crew inside a 1959 Chevrolet Bel-Air in the desert on some of the prettiest days and nights of the year as we brought this story to life! Thanks so much to the incredible cast and crew of 100 Miles to Lordsburg! |
